The Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Incorporated (SPCA Otago) has been a voice for animal welfare since 1882. Together with our generous supporters we continue to work hard to improve the lives of animals in the Otago region.
We encourage the humane treatment of all animals and to prevent cruelty being inflicted upon them. We do everything we can to ensure Otago's animals are well cared for; not only in Dunedin, but from Waipahi to Oamaru, and Central Otago as far as Haast. We want everyone in our area to know how to look after their animals and give them the love and respect they deserve.
Every year at the SPCA Otago Animal Centres we care for thousands of animals that have been lost, abandoned, injured, or abused. We rescue animals from harmful situations, attend dozens of animal emergencies, and investigate numerous complaints about animal cruelty.
SPCA Otago has the power to protect all animals from abuse, neglect, and abandonment, including prosecuting offenders under the Animal Welfare Act 1999.
